Applying for a position at Kmart is easy, as everything you need is located on the company’s website and you can be assured that the application and your resume will be going directly to the appropriate people. Take the time to fill out your personal information, making sure that it is accurate and up to date. Try not to leave out any information or be vague in your responses. If an employer feels that there is not information, they will dismiss your application. When answering any other questions, be sure to be concise and clear.

Your responses should be to the point, as your application has only a few seconds to make a good impression. Pay attention to spelling and grammar and give the application a re-read before you send it off. If you can, have a friends or family member proof read, to catch something you may have missed.

You will be asked to share information regarding your past employment, education and your prospective availability. Where possible, highlight any skills or past work experience that could benefit you in your new position. Your potential employer will be looking to them for first hand insight about your work ethic, level of competency and personality.

Regardless of what position you are applying for, it is common courtesy to wait about a week before you make the follow-up phone call. This is to give the HR department enough time to receive and consider your application. The follow-up call is important because it allows you to speak directly to a person and allows you to get a contact name for future inquiries. Not only that, but by putting a voice to a name, you are ensuring that you are standing apart from the pack, and are seriously considered for this position.

December 23rd, 2011 by admin

Every home is equipped with drains which carry dirty water and sewage out. It is very important to keep these drains clear or else there might be numerous health hazards due to clogging problems. People who have faced issues with clogged drains can tell you how annoying and dirty it can get just to unclog the blocked drains.

Numerous homeowners all across US, including Denver and its neighboring cities use a range of equipments to fix this issue. Here is a list of some of the equipment which can help you take care of minor clogging problems:

* Manual Snake: Mainly used for clearing out clogs from toilet bowls, manual snakes are one of the best devices to unclog minor jams in the drain pipes. This device can easily bend round corners. This device is quite popular in a number of homes all across US, including Denver and surrounding areas.

* Motorized Cartable Drain Cleaners: Due to its light weight, the operator of this device can easily carry it as he gently unwinds the coil to make it go down the pipe. In situations when none of these equipments work the only option left would be hire a plumber.

Moving a Sofa – Its a Dirty Job, But Somebody Has to Do It

December 23rd, 2011 by admin

Ask 10 people to help you move a sofa, and you’ll quickly find out who your true friends are. That’s because moving a sofa is hard work. But with the right equipment, and the right knowledge plus a little positive attitude you can move the unmovable clumsy behemoth.

The tools needed for the job are inexpensive and can be purchased at many hardware stores(moving straps, moving blankets, furniture sliders). Although these tools can be purchased at most hardware stores, the one thing that cant be bought at a local Walmart is furniture moving knowledge. As a Knoxville mover who has moved a lot of sofas in my life, knowledge is what I share.

First make sure to take all measurements of doors, hallways, and any tight areas that the sofa will need to pass through. The last thing you want is to be caught in the process of moving a sofa and then discover that it will not fit through a door. This is energy wasted, and the one thing a professional mover needs more than anything is stored energy.

Write these numbers down so you will not forget them. You will also want to measure the dimensions of the sofa (LxWxH). If it is ascertained that your sofa will not fit through your doors or hallways, you may be able to tilt the sofa so that the back of the sofa is facing upward. This will make the sofa narrow, giving you the flexibility you need to squeeze it through.

Now that you know how you will get the sofa through the house/apt, it will need to be padded well to protect the sofa from dust, rips, and debris. As a Knoxville mover I know that moving blankets can be rented from places like Uhaul by the dozens. Wrap the sofa well with moving blankets; blankets can be secured to the sofa by using movers rubber bands or shrink wrap. The sofa is padded well, so the only thing to do now is to lift (carry) the sofa to its predetermined destination.

It will usually take two people to accomplish this job, but if you’re sofa has an attached bed it could take three people to handle the weight. Only carry the sofa when you absolutely must. You can place moving sliders under the feet of the sofa; now you can slide or pull the sofa as far as possible. Once you’re in a position that you have no other choice but to carry your sofa remember to keep the back straight as a board.

You and your moving partner can lift on a three count, but remember to keep the sofa as close as possible to the your body. Keep your movements slow–keep them calculated. When you get your sofa to its destination, lower it. You have just moved your sofa; now you can go move the refrigerator.

Lasik Chicago – Longest Experience Of Mid East

December 20th, 2011 by admin

Lasik, now is, not a word that needs any introduction. It has been a renowned name which has world wide acceptance. Many of the laser centers are opened world wide. Lasik Orange country, Lasik Denver, Lasik Dallas and so on, the list is endless. Lasik Chicago is another laser (laser in-situ keratiomileusis) center that has the longest experience of dealing in laser eye treatments in whole of the Midwest.

Apart from laser vision correction, eye care centers also offer the expertise in cataract corrections. The highly skilled cataract surgeons offer the latest non stitch cataract surgery including both monofocal and multifocal lens implants. The monofocal lens implants refers to the treatment of the distance imperfections whereas, multifocal lens implants are done for both, distance and near vision. Apart from cataract, it also offers myopic retinal degeneration. The latest lens implants known as ReSTOR and Crystal lens implants free from Bifocals are an added feature of this lasik eye institute.

Retina surgery, diabetic eye disease, glaucoma treatments and comprehensive eye exams are few other fields in which this laser centre excels. Its not only the treatments that this center excels in, rather it provides a whole lot of range of consultancy facilities to the aspiring candidates for laser eye treatments. Patients can also go for no-cost consultancy from centers like lasik Chicago.

But before going for actual surgery a candidate must always go for a consultancy so as to have details about what exactly he is being into. The pre-surgery tests, post surgery precautions, cost of surgery, impact of treatment and the risks involved are important queries to be worked on. As such, there are few painless tests before the actual surgery to determine the level of imperfections. Post surgery precautions include resistance from water, no eye strains and few eye drops. The cost of surgery varies from center to center and ranges from 1000$ to 1500$ per eye treatment. The impact and the risks involved must be well studied. However, there is a meager amount of risks with lasik procedure due to high range of technologies available and the longest experience in laser procedures. Still, prevention is better than cure. Hence, doctor’s directions must be followed well.

Always Be Growing – Reach For Your Dreams

December 20th, 2011 by admin

As I open my emails this morning there is a reoccurring theme from Brian Tracy, Napoleon Hill, Bill Harris of Centerpointe, and Mike Litman. They are all speaking on courage to follow your passion. Why do so many people let their dreams wither and die? Is it fear of failure or crazy as it many seem, fear of success?

It is so easy to stay in our little comfort zone of known friends, known jobs, known neighborhood and even common complaints. Many people find it easier to complain about what they do not like about their life or situations than to actually go out and do something about improving them. Some people would rather stay with something they know, even if they don’t like it, rather than rock the boat by even considering something new.

It all comes down to what you want from your life. Would you rather be safe but miserable with the known or look for a way to make it better? You may be thinking, what gives her to right to tell me to shake up my world?

I grew up as a very poor Kansas farm girl. It would have been less effort to obey my father and stay right there on the farm. I had a dream of going to college and actually doing something with my life. Out of my graduating class only 3 of us went to college and one of those dropped out after the first year. What gave me the courage to say I deserved more? Perhaps it was my teachers. Maybe it was just a persistent voice inside my head saying, “get out of here and go find out what you can do with your life.”

I am so very grateful that I listened. Talk about a stretch out of the comfort zone. I had not been allowed to learn to drive, had never had a job, and did not have any money. In fact, my possessions were few and not very nice at that, but I wanted more from life.

Now I am NOT recommending that anyone follow my lead and run away from home, but I am so thankful that I did stretch my limits and go for the gusto. What I learned in college has benefited me every day of my life. The classes were very intense and informative, but what I learned outside of class was even more important. I learned to not only survive but thrive. I learned how to interact with various people from many different backgrounds. I learned how to network and locate not just a job, but a good job where I learned as well as being paid.

I grew so much as a person in those three and a half years. It made such an impact on me that I held the goal of a Masters degree in the back of my mind for decades. It was actually 30 years after my Bachelors degree before I was able to go to the University of Denver and start working on my Masters degree. Once again, it was not easy. I worked until 2 pm and drove to Denver, 170 miles, once a week for 3 years to earn my Masters degrees. I went to class from 6 until 10 or 11pm and then got up at 4 and drove back to Steamboat to be in the office by 8 am to work a full day.

Was it easy or comfortable to obtain either the Bachelors or Masters degrees? NO. Was it worth it? Absolutely Yes. It meant giving up weekends and evenings to study as well but I have never regretted a minute of it. Was I scared and nervous and unsure of myself both times? Yes. Did it stop me? NO.

What is it that you want very badly? Badly enough to step out of your comfort zone and reach for your dreams? You can make excuses or find a way to make it happen. Your choice.

TV in Kids’ Rooms Leads to Obesity

December 19th, 2011 by admin

There used to be a day when households were lucky to have one television set. Now we often see TVs in every room of the house. Many kids don’t just feel lucky if they have a television in their bedrooms, they expect it.

But studies show that a TV in a child’s bedroom is detrimental to their health . Children ages one to five watch nearly five more hours of TV and videos each week if there’s a television in their room.

Of those surveyed in the study, 40 percent viewed TV in their rooms, raising their risk of being overweight by one-third. With both younger and older children, the increase in television watching also led to an increase in BMI rates .

To counteract the risk of obesity, parents are encouraged to designate the child’s bedroom for sleeping and play time only. Use their room to build their health by doing kids exercises or playing games that will improve intellect and gross motor skills.

Only allow children to watch television in the family room, where programs and time spent in front of the TV can be monitored. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children’s total media viewing time be limited to one or two hours per day.

While the television does act as a good babysitter when parents need to get things done around the house, there are many other ways to keep kids busy and entertained. Parents should not let their children become couch potatoes.

Kids activities other than the television such as kids exercise can stimulate creativity, imagination and a healthy future , all things a parent wants for their child.

Bronchitis Home Remedies and Bronchitis Chinese Medicine

December 19th, 2011 by admin

Homeopathy

Attack the hack. For a dry, hacking cough, Aconitum is among the best homeopathic medicines, according to homeopath Dana Ullman. Others that work well include Antimonium tartaricum, Bryonia, Drosera, Phosphorus, and Spongia. Which of these medicines a homeopath prescribes depends on your unique symptoms.

Chinese Medicine

Silence the Wind. Chinese medicine views bronchitis as an invasion of Wind, according to Efrem Korngold, O.M.D., L.Ac. Sometimes the condition is brought on by Wind Cold, which produces a dry cough and whitish mucus. For this type of bronchitis, Dr. Korngold might prescribe ginger. Then there’s Wind Heat bronchitis, which is characterized by a thick yellow-green mucus. This type responds well to prescription herbal formulas containing fritillaria bulb and tricosanthis fruit, he says.

Consult an acupuncturist. The United Nations World Health Organization includes bronchitis in its list of conditions treatable with acupuncture. When treating bronchitis, acupuncturists use Lung 5, which is located inside your elbow, on the upper part of the crease. They also use Lung 6, which is high on the thickest part of the forearm. You can try stimulating these points yourself with acupressure. Using your fingertips, apply steady, penetrating pressure to each point for 3 minutes.

Home Remedies

Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of fluids?six to eight 8-ounce glasses a day, Dr. Pizzorno advises. Fluids help liquefy bronchial secretions, making them easier to cough up. Most people with bronchitis find warm fluids more soothing than cold.

If it’s dry, humidify. Dry air is irritating and can trigger coughing fits. “At night, run a vaporizer while you sleep,” Dr. Simons suggests. During the day, take hot, steamy showers.

Suck on candy. Hard candies help soothe your throat, which in turn helps relieve bronchial irritation, Dr. Brauer says. Use sugarless candies to avoid tooth decay.

Protect your airways. Avoid cigarette smoke, dust, chemical vapors, and other respiratory irritants, Dr. Brauer says.

Over-The-Counter Drugs

Choose a cough medicine. For a dry cough, try an over-the-counter cough suppressant that contains dextromethorphan, Dr. Simons suggests. Both Triaminic DM and Dimetapp DM have dextromethorphan as their active ingredient. But don’t use these products if you’re bringing up mucus. In that case, you should use an expectorant made with guaifenesin, such as Congestac.

Other Good Choices

Visualization

Breathe in, breathe out. Coughing that you’re unable to control makes you anxious. This leads to shallow breathing, which in turn triggers even more coughing.

The following visualization exercise, recommended by Gerald N. Epstein, M.D., director of the Academy of Integrative Medicine and Mental Imagery in New York City, relieves anxiety and restores normal breathing. Practice it for a minute or two every few hours.

Close your eyes and focus on your breathing, telling yourself that you can get rid of anything that interferes with your normal breathing. Then open your eyes.

Close your eyes again and take three breaths. If you cough, just accept it and keep breathing. Open your eyes.

Close your eyes again and take three breaths. Focus on how your breathing is changing, deepening. Open your eyes.

Repeat the above steps, this time focusing on breathing from your diaphragm rather than from your upper chest.

Aromatherapy

Get a whiff of relief. Herbalist/aromatherapist Kathy Keville, coauthor of Aromatherapy: A Complete Guide to the Healing Art, recommends the following essential oils for bronchitis: clove bud, fir (including balsam and pine), ravensara, and sweet inula. Add 3 to 5 drops of the essential oil of your choice to a bowl of hot water and inhale deeply. Or add 3 to 15 drops to a comfortably hot bath and step in for a soothing soak. Avoid using clove in the bath, as it may irritate your skin.

Naturopathy

Make your own cough syrup. Place six chopped white onions in a double boiler. Add 1/2 cup of honey. Slowly simmer this mixture for 2 hours to draw out the onion juice, then strain out the remaining onion material. Take 1 to 2 warm tablespoonfuls of the honey-onion juice mixture every hour or two, Dr. Pizzorno says.

Get plastered. Did your grandmother believe in mustard plasters? Naturopaths still do. Here’s Dr. Pizzorno’s recipe: Mix 2 tablespoons of dry black or brown mustard with 6 tablespoons of flour. Add enough water to make a paste. Spread the paste on a cloth, then lay the cloth over your chest. Inhale the vapors for no more than 20 minutes. After that, be sure to remove the plaster. If you leave it on your chest too long, you could develop blisters.

Medical Measures

A study conducted by Ralph Gonzalez, M.D., of the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, found that doctors prescribe antibiotics to two-thirds of the people whom they treat for bronchitis. But more than 90 percent of all cases of bronchitis result from viral infections, and antibiotics can’t kill viruses. These drugs are effective only against bacteria, which cause comparatively few cases of bronchitis.

“Before prescribing antibiotics, your doctor should take a sputum culture to make sure that you really have a bacterial infection,” Dr. Brauer says. If the test comes out positive-that is, you do have bronchitis-causing bacteria in your system-then antibiotics are appropriate.

In that case, there’s something that you can do to increase the effectiveness of any antibiotics you’re given: Pair them with bromelain, says Alan Gaby, M.D. An enzyme found in pineapple, bromelain helps antibiotics get into your cells. He suggests either eating more pineapple or taking a 250-milligram bromelain supplement with your antibiotics.

Red Flags

Consult your doctor immediately if you have bronchitis and you develop a fever or you start coughing up bloody, brown, or greenish yellow phlegm. You may have pneumonia, which requires prompt professional treatment.

Confident People Get the Job Done

December 19th, 2011 by admin

Is the recession over yet?! Not quite you might think. Well, the recession might come to an end soon, but that does not mean things get better right away. The financial uncertainty will stay for a while and at least at the time of this writing we’re heading towards the last quarter of the year. New hires are mainly for part-time and shopping related job, but the majority of the unemployed will have only small chances to find a new gig.

Being afraid of losing your job or if you already have lost your job – it turns out this is a major health hazard. Some studies show that formerly healthy people suddenly become seriously ill in one way or the other within a certain period of time when such an event hit. We’re not talking a cold kind illness or so, but rather something more serious (flu and up so to speak). While this news certainly does not lift your spirit, it might however help to become more motivated to stay healthy and to add a little more caution to your lifestyle.

Be good to yourself in a good way. A healthy lifestyle is always good, but even a little more will never hurt. Make sure to get enough sleep and do not let the worries takeover. Not getting enough sleep is linked to many illnesses that might even turn into a long-term health related situation. Add more physical exercise to your daily routine. Walks, longer than an hour, do work wonders for your health. Add some deep-breathing exercises on top of that and positive energy will fill your body and mind for sure.

Now combine this with a healthy diet that contains a lot of Vitamin D, Omega-3s, and fiber. Also, stick to a schedule if you are unemployed. Staying in bed all morning only makes things worse – especially once you find a job. Getting out of this routine is so difficult, it might affect your performance at the new job dramatically. Let the alarm clock be part of your day and get out of bed by 6.30 AM/7.00 AM.

You will be surprised how these things can help you to turn things around. You will become more healthy and stronger due to the exercise. You will gain self-esteem and be more self-confident. Employers like confident people. Confident People get the job done. Be one of them!

Yes, Lasers Can Treat Cataracts Now!

December 19th, 2011 by admin

Do you know how cataracts are treated? Whether cataracts are extracted, liquefied or zapped with a beam of radiation, cataract surgery is one of the safest procedures available with a high rate of success. However, with a new paradigm of laser techniques, surgeons may soon need to think twice about performing surgery.

It is true that the advent of femtosecond lasers has brought a new level of accuracy, consistency and safety to critical areas of cataract surgery. Yet, recent studies showed that laser photolysis with femtosecond surgery can postpone cataract surgery by bleaching the lenses.

Yes, you’ve heard me right. It is not the same procedure experts do with bleaching of teeth, hair, skin and clothes. In cataracts, the lenses are bleached with light. Photobleaching involves using a pulsed laser in the infrared spectrum to bleach the chromophores (molecules that absorb light) that accumulate in the natural human lens. By bringing back the transparency of age-induced yellow lenses through photobleaching, the need for cataract surgery can potentially be postponed in 3 to 7 years.

In fact, by incorporating the concept of photobleaching in cataract management, millions of visually impaired people, —particularly in developing countries where surgery is not available—, can be saved. Furthermore, experts regard photobleaching as a possible tool to control cataract formation until IOL implantation is necessary.

Nevertheless, further research is needed to determine the influence of photobleaching on the refractive index of the lenses and whether it can create irregular astigmatism. The future calls for broader ideas that will improve the way surgeons manage cataracts today, and eliminate surgery tomorrow if possible.
